Denim on denim or the Canadian tuxedo (as it’s often referred to) is a trend that is sometimes hard to do if you haven’t tried it before or you don’t often experiment with your fashion. However, there are a few simple steps to help you on your way. To start with (that’s if you never tried this trend) try putting different shades of denim together, maybe a white pair of jeans with black denim jacket. Try not to put denim accessories into your denim on denim outfit. Somehow, I think that might be a bit too much. If you have parts of your body that you are conscious of, then I’d say use darker denims in these areas because darker denims (or colours) can be slimming and then you can use light denim washes to accentuate everywhere else. Another trend and tip for denim on denim is adding in ripped denim which we have seen so much of in previous seasons in 2016 and I think will continue during the next few seasons.
One of my aims this year is to work with a few more photographers because the way in which we view fashion can be interpreted in so many ways. Although I show you what I wear and how I use colour, different textures or silhouettes to construct my look, the way you view fashion will always be personal to you much like the way each photographer interprets an image.
I met Jafar (this week’s photographer) through mutual friends. He has been a photographer for approximately two years and he says that through his photography he can deliver “visually enticing content that stimulates the brain”. If you’re interested in seeing more of his work check out his Instagram page, @Jafar.ad.
Brightening up my wardrobe was possibly one of the best things I’ve done and would recommend it to anyone who wants to push their fashion to the next level! I’m sticking to my word and continuing to explore fashion through different colours (this will become more apparent in upcoming posts).
WHAT I WORE:
Over the past month – like every other January – the weather hasn’t been fantastic and going out can feel like an effort. I think colour helps to change your mood especially in these dull winter days when we are longing to see a bit of sun. To liven up my winter style I decided to wear a yellow jumper from ASOS and pair it with a denim combo of dungarees and a jacket of the same wash (double denim isn’t always a faux-pas!) To complete the look and get away from the conventional winter neutrals; I wore my Reebok Insta-pumps to add a little extra colour to the look.
